8-Foot Board-on-Board Western Red Cedar Fence & Retaining Wall Installation in Frisco, TX

At Frisco Fence, every project is designed with durability, structural integrity, and long-term curb appeal in mind. This recent project in Frisco involved replacing an older fence line with a brand-new 8-foot-tall Board-on-Board Western Red Cedar fence combined with a pressure-treated pine retaining wall system for additional ground support and elevation management.

The homeowner wanted a fence that would provide maximum privacy while also improving the overall appearance and stability of the property. Because portions of the yard required grade retention, this project included both premium cedar fencing and a reinforced retaining wall solution built to withstand North Texas weather conditions.

Project Details

This installation included:

  • 75 linear feet of 8-foot-tall unstained Western Red Cedar Board-on-Board fencing
  • 75 linear feet of 18-inch pressure-treated pine retaining wall
  • 2 3/8" steel posts cemented 36" deep with Maximizer concrete
  • Simpson brackets for additional structural reinforcement
  • Western Red Cedar rails, trim, and top cap
  • Gate adjustments to improve operation and latching
  • Optional front-facing street section with gate upgrade available

Why Board-on-Board Cedar Fencing?

Board-on-Board fencing remains one of the most popular fence styles throughout Frisco and the surrounding DFW area because it offers enhanced privacy and a more premium appearance compared to standard side-by-side fencing.

With overlapping pickets, Board-on-Board fencing helps eliminate gaps that can appear over time due to wood shrinkage and seasonal movement. The result is a fence that maintains privacy while also creating a cleaner, more dimensional look from both sides of the fence.

For this project, premium Western Red Cedar was selected because of its:

  • Natural resistance to rot and insects
  • Long-term durability
  • High-end appearance
  • Stability in Texas weather conditions
  • Excellent staining potential for future maintenance

Heavy-Duty Steel Post Construction

One of the biggest upgrades on this project was the use of 2 3/8" steel posts set 36 inches deep in concrete. Unlike traditional wood posts that can eventually rot or lean, steel posts provide significantly greater long-term structural stability.

Combined with Simpson brackets and reinforced framing, this fence system was designed to help minimize:

  • Leaning fence lines
  • Post movement
  • Sagging gates
  • Structural shifting over time

This type of construction is especially important on taller 8-foot fences where wind load and fence weight are substantially greater than standard 6-foot installations.

Pressure-Treated Retaining Wall Installation

Because this property required elevation retention along the fence line, the project also included an 18-inch pressure-treated pine retaining wall system constructed using stacked 2x6 pine boards.

Retaining walls play a critical role in helping protect fence longevity when grade changes or soil erosion are present. By properly supporting the soil and controlling runoff, the retaining wall helps reduce excess pressure on the fence structure itself.

This combination of cedar fencing and retaining wall construction creates a cleaner finish while helping protect the long-term integrity of the entire fence line.

Fence Gate Adjustments & Improvements

In addition to the new construction, this project also included adjustments to both existing front gates to ensure they opened, closed, and latched properly.

Proper gate alignment is one of the most overlooked aspects of fence performance. Gates that sag or fail to latch properly can create unnecessary strain on hinges, hardware, and posts over time. Making these adjustments during installation helps improve both function and longevity.

Frisco homeowners continue to invest in high-quality cedar fencing because it provides:

  • Increased privacy
  • Improved security
  • Enhanced curb appeal
  • Better long-term durability
  • Added property value
