How Do I Maintain My Cedar Fence?

Holly Cottles • May 8, 2024

Maintaining a cedar fence is essential to preserve its natural beauty and prolong its lifespan. Regular maintenance tasks include inspecting for any signs of damage such as cracks, splits, or rot, and promptly addressing them to prevent further deterioration. Cleaning the fence periodically with a gentle detergent and water solution helps remove dirt, mold, and mildew, while a thorough rinse with a hose ensures a pristine finish. Applying a protective stain every few years not only enhances the fence's appearance but also shields it from the elements, UV rays, and moisture, thereby extending its longevity. Additionally, trimming back vegetation around the fence prevents moisture accumulation and reduces the risk of pests and rot and point all sprinklers away from the fence to prevent uneven fading. By investing time and effort in proper maintenance, cedar fences can retain their charm and structural integrity for many years to come.
